The designs of ‘heirloom collection’, launched by Art Karat this year, have been influenced by royal dynasties of a different era. From exceptional kundan craftsmanship to the strings of beads fixed to temple themes and single rows of cultured freshwater pearls with filigree pendants, the exhibition reflects how conventional jewellery can make a difference in carrying yourself with style and dignity.

Most of the ornaments put up here have a silver base with gold plating where a lot of creativity goes into the craft. The deities of Puri Jagannatha temple attached to a line of golden beads, locket with Victorian work engraved on a green-coloured limestone fixed to a double-rowed rubies, multi-strings of turquoise beads with crimson coloured dollar, neckpieces attached to a temple-shaped locket, strings of beads with double-sided pendants, ornaments influenced by temple jewellery and ruby-jarkan based dollar hanging to silk threads form part of the creations. A pair of city-based models wore and showcased some of the signature pieces of the collection.

There are more than 600 pieces of jewellery displayed at the venue, including pairs of chand-bali earrings, jumkas embellished with rows of pearls and rubies apart from a bunch of intricately studded hangings.

The jewellery carry the signature of designer Asha Kamal Modi. Her love for art and extensive travel around the world inspired her to create a blend of traditional and contemporary pieces.

For those who want to view a unique collection of designs that speak more about heritage value and where the range starts from Rs.5,000, the exhibition is open at The Gateway Hotel till September 15 between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
