Heat wave in north Andhra

June 24, 2014 12:10 am | Updated 12:10 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Heat wave conditions prevailed over north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Monday due to the presence of westerly winds. Visakhapatnam Airport recorded 41 degrees Celsius while Waltair, at 35 degrees, was just 2 degrees above normal.

“The heat wave conditions were confined to a few pockets while hot winds were experienced in the remaining places over coastal AP. Bapatla recorded 42 degrees Celsius while Kakinada, Machilipatnam and Ongole recorded 41 degrees and Gannavaram, Kavali, Nellore and Narsapuram recorded 40 degrees,” according to a spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre here.

“This is a typical situation and there is no system in Bay of Bengal. There is, however, a trough over Chattisgarh to West Central Bay extending over North Coastal AP. The heat wave conditions are unlikely to continue tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.
