Severe heat wave and heat wave conditions prevailed in several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday and are likely to continue for the next 24 hours in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
At 45ºCelsius at the Airport, much higher than the normal of 38º, and only 2 degrees less than Saturday, the city reeled under severe heat wave conditions.
With the unusual temperature for the second successive day, Vizag equalled Rentachintala, which generally records very high temperatures during the season. With the exception of Saturday, the highest May temperature of 45ºC was last recorded in 2002. Waltair, however, recorded the normal 38º C.
Kakinada, Tuni top
While Kakinada and Tuni were at a scorching 46ºC, the highest, Gannavaram, Machilipatnam and Bapatla came close at 45ºC, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre sources here. Ongole, Nandigama, Kavali, Nellore, Tirupati and Ramagundam recorded 43ºC followed by Nizamabad and Kurnool (42 º) and Hyderabad and Anantapur (40º) and Calingapatnam recorded 34º.
Air circulation
An upper air circulation lay over the west-central Bay and the adjoining northwest Bay in coastal Andhra Pradesh that caused some rain in Srikakulam district. A drizzle occurred in parts of the city late in the evening.
