A policeman was reportedly beaten up by a motorist following an argument at NGGOs Colony at Muralinagar.

Head constable D. Kalidas was on patrolling duty on the road at NGGOs Colony on Wednesday night. He noticed a car owner arguing with someone right on the road. When the Head constable asked him to take his car aside, the car owner questioned his ‘audacity’ in intervening in the dispute.

Though Mr. Kalidas gave his identity, the car owner reportedly hit him in a fit of rage.

It’s learnt that the police were questioning the five accused in this case on Thursday. The Fifth Town Police are, however, tight-lipped on the issue except confirming that the policeman was beaten up.

Scrap scam

One more person was arrested on Thursday in connection with the scrap scam at Hindustan Shipyard Limited, taking the total number of arrests in the case to five.

Shobo Khota, a security inspector at HSL, was arrested by the Malkapuram police for his alleged involvement in the scam in which scrap material worth about Rs.3.6 crore was siphoned off from HSL.

In all, 14 persons, including representatives of a private company and senior employees of HSL, were said to be involved in the scam. HSL has already suspended seven employees in connection with the scam.

The Malkapuram police are investigating the case.

Postal official booked

A case has been registered by the police against a sub-postmaster of the NAD Post Office on Thursday for allegedly diverting funds from a customer’s account.

Jagannadha Rao, the accused, had reportedly drawn Rs.2 lakh from an account in December 2011. He, however, deposited the money back into the account in March this year. The discrepancy in the account was noticed during internal audit.

On a complaint filed by the Postal Officials, the Kancharapalem police registered a case.
