The district judiciary has taken a serious note of the detention and alleged roughing up of a judicial officer by a Sub-Inspector, constable and a home guard at the NAD junction here after midnight on Saturday, with Principal District Judge V. Jayasurya sending a report on the incident along with complaint of the judicial officer to the High Court on Monday.

Meanwhile advocates launched a two-day boycott of court work from Monday in protest against the incident and seeking action against the police personnel responsible for detention and manhandling of First Class Magistrate and Junior Civil Judge of S. Kota M. Kasiviswanadha Achari.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K. Mahendra Patrudu and ACP K. Prabahakar met the Principal District Judge and assured him that action would be taken against the guilty police personnel.

The judicial officer was returning home at Vepagunta after distributing invitations to friends and relatives in the city for his marriage when he had been stopped by the police as part of the drive against drunken driving.

The police personnel had allegedly abused and roughed him up even as he was trying to explain his identity.

Advocates of the District Courts Complex, after boycotting the court work, held a demonstration in front of the complex and blocked traffic for some time. Secretary of the Visakhapatnam Bar Association M.S. Madhav, K.S.S. Narayana, Bar Council of AP Members S. Krishna Mohan, D.V.R. Murthy and Ch. Madhavilata and others participated.

At Gajuwaka, advocates boycotted court work and the local Bar Association president K.V. Swamy condemned the alleged misbehaviour of the police towards a judicial officer.
