Hard work always pays and a fine example of this was Director News of Doordarshan P.J. Sudhakar, observed the Union Minister of State for HRD D. Purandeswari here on Sunday.

She was speaking at a felicitation function organised in honour of Dr. Sudhakar who has 90 academic degrees under his belt and presented him `Life time achievement award' at the programme conducted by Chaitanya Art Theatres, Hyderabad and Progressive Friends' Association.

Ms. Purandeswari who also released two books written by him -`Right to Education' and `Women Reservations' on the occasion, said it was apt that a highly qualified person like him came out with the book on right to education which would come into effect from April 1. Similarly, the reservations to women was an achievement of the UPA Government, she noted and appreciated the efforts of the author on this score.

She also felicitated Bayyavarapu Narasinga Rao, school teacher of Dr. Sudhakar, on the occasion.

Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao in his address said he was proud that Dr. Sudhakar was a resident of Visakhapatnam city, and hoped the latter would achieve more records.

District Collector J. Syamala Rao said Dr. Sudhakar was penning about 250 books and possessed degrees in law which even the head of the apex court in India did not have.

President of Federation of Andhra Pradesh Industries B.V. Rama Rao lauded the achievement of Dr. Sudhakar who started his life as a child labourer, waiter in hotel, reared cattle, worked as a rod bender in a construction company, joined as a typist in Government department and was successful in the Civil Services examination in 1987 to rise to the level of Director (News) of Doordarshan, Hyderabad.

Responding to the felicitation, Dr. Sudhakar said he owed everything to his mother, who though illiterate, goaded him to study hard. He would strive to achieve more academic degrees and share his knowledge with people, he added. MLAs Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, Tynala Vijayakumar, and G. Baburao, Lebenshilfe founder T. Saraswathi Devi, INTUC leader Mantri Rajasekhar, A. Tata Rao, M. Anjaneyulu, secretary of Chaitanya Art Theatres K.K. Raja, Deputy Inspector General Stamps and Registrations from Guntur S. Mohammad Nabi, and others spoke.
