A teenaged girl ended her life allegedly due to harassment by a youth at Anakapalle in the district on Friday.

Sheik Subhani (23) was allegedly after K. Lavanya (17), who was employed at a mobile store at Anakapalle.

It was said that they were in love for sometime before breaking up a few months ago due to some misgivings.

Subhani allegedly started sending abusive SMSs to Lavanya after the break-up.

Lavanya’s parents lodged a complaint against Subhani at the Anakapalle town police station on May 31.

Subsequently, the accused was arrested under Section 354 of the IPC (assault or criminal force on women with intent to outrage her modesty) and he was remanded to judicial custody.

A few days ago, Subhani was released on bail and got back to his old ways and allegedly threatened Lavanya.

On Friday, the girl took the extreme step and left her family members in a state of shock. The body was shifted to the Government Hospital for post-mortem and a case was registered under Section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide).

Inspector of Anakapalle town police station P. Srinivasa Rao said the case was being investigated from various angles.

Parents and relatives of the girl, with the support of some women’s organisations, staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding that Subhani be immediately arrested.
