‘Halt land acquisition for petro corridor’

April 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The recent status quo issued by the High Court ordering a halt to land acquisition for the Petro Corridor project has come as a shot in the arm for the farmers, fishermen and the poor, who have been under the constant threat of eviction from their lands.

The Nakkapalli Industrial Park Nirvasitula Sangam, has been fighting a long-drawn battle with the support of the CPI(M), for the past six years for the cause of the farmers, fishermen and others, to whom land acquisition notices were issued by the previous Congress government in 2010.

The State government should put an end to the attempts of forcible land acquisition at least now, CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch. Narasinga Rao and Sangam president L. Chandra Rao told the media on Thursday. There was unity among the affected villagers and none of them have parted with their lands, though attempts were being made by the Government through officials.

The question of ‘land pooling’ was ruled out as not even one farmer had parted with his land so far.
