Civic officials demolish three buildings
A building each was demolished in Zones III, IV and V of the city on Friday as a part of the drive to pull down dilapidated and dangerous buildings.
The building in Zone III close to the municipal office was a G+2 structure. The owner was convinced to pay two months of rent to the tenants and they were moved out before pulling down the building. In Zone IV a private property was demolished and the building and in Zone V it was a community hall.
Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana asserted that all dilapidated buildings would be demolished. However, all the 375 buildings would be inspected for structural stability and depending on the reports of engineers notices would be issued to owners asking them to demolish within a stipulated time.
If the owners failed to comply with it, the Town Planning wing would take up demolition and the cost would be collected from respective owners.
Precautions would be taken while taking up demolition so that owners and those of neighbouring houses would not face any problems and legal aspects would also be looked into, Mr. Satyanarayana said.
A decision on pulling down the Andhra University Hostel for Women would be taken after discussing it with AU officials. The building has been identified as old some years ago.
Similarly, decision about dilapidated buildings under zilla parishad and R&B departments should be taken by the respective departments, he added.
