GVMC moves to ban plastic bags

July 07, 2011 11:45 am | Updated November 02, 2016 03:26 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A resolution would be introduced on banning plastic bags below 40 microns of thickness at the corporation general body meeting on July 11 for approval and 15 days after that the ban would be enforced.

Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu held a meeting with officials concerned and traders on Wednesday.

Shops using the banned plastic bags would be seized, a fine imposed and criminal cases booked against them, he warned.

During his visit to Division 30, the Commissioner directed that scrap and condemned vehicles should be removed from road margins. Otherwise they would be auctioned. He ordered third party verification on the CC road laid at Chalavathota even without completing underground drainage though patch work would have sufficed. Corporator Bandaru Srinivasa Rao participated.
