Tropical countries like India facing high temperatures as well as humidity should pay heed to the dangers of corrosion of steel in concrete, an expert in anti-corrosive cement, M.K. Kamat, has said.

Concrete and cement itself were protection to maintain the passive layer as corrosion would also result in reducing the ductility of rebar, he said.

He was speaking at a seminar on “monomolecular technology and Corrosino cement” organised by Sree Jayajothi Cements at Grand Bay hotel here on Friday.

Retired Director of Madras Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam, Myneni Hari Prasada Rao was present.
