A full-time Vice-Chancellor was appointed for Andhra University after a long gap of 20 months. Principal of AU College of Engineering G.S.N. Raju was appointed by Governor as V-C of Andhra University and the order was issued on Wednesday.
Principal Secretaries (higher education) and Vice-Chancellors of other universities were V-Cs in-charge of Andhra University after Prof. Beela Satyanarayana completed his term as V-C in June 2011.
At present Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry, Prof. P. George Victor is the in-charge V-C. Prof. Raju is expected to take charge as Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday.
Prof. Raju is a native of Undi near Bhimavaram in West Godavari district. He has an excellent academic record from PUC onwards. He did his B.E. and M.E. at AUCE and Ph.D at IIT-Kharagpur.
Prof. Raju joined AUCE as a tutor in 1979 and rose up the ranks and held many important academic and administrative posts, before becoming its Principal in June, 2010.
A professor of electronics and communication engineering, Prof. Raju is involved in a lot of research work, guided more than two dozen scholars to their Ph.Ds, authored several textbooks and took part in many academic activities.
Among his inventions was a new antenna for modern marine radar which was accepted by IEEE of the US. Being coordinator for M.Tech. (satellite communications) programme of Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad is one of the many academic activities he is involved in .
Achievements
During his students days, Prof. Raju was a weightlifter and bodybuilder, winning the Mr. Andhra University title once and declared as best weightlifter for four years. He was also a long distance runner.
Prof. Raju won many awards and presented more than 350 research papers at national and international conferences.
