People of all ages and from all walks of life thronged the CMR Mall on Sunday. They were not there for any clearance sale, but to choose from a variety of plants they wanted to grow in their homes and neighbourhood.

Chairman of CMR Group Mavuri Venkata Ramana brought in a lorry load of well-grown saplings from Kadiyam to be distributed free of cost to those who wanted it.

“We brought 15,000 saplings and, if required, we will get more,” he said.

Going by the way people were coming to own saplings, it looked like he would have to bring a couple of lorry loads immediately.

The city that lost its entire green cover to the rampaging winds of the Hudhud last Sunday had left every resident in despair. Further, it would be difficult to nurture seedlings in the harsh sun. The best way out was to get fully-grown saplings, some three to four feet high, and plant them.

The residents were more than happy to collect the saplings.

Security personnel at the mall were busy regulating traffic in view of the huge turnout for the distribution drive.

The residents had a choice such as neem, pogada, kadamba, mango, saptaparini, among others.
