Gold plating won't damage inscriptions: TTD Chairman

March 28, 2010 05:29 pm | Updated November 18, 2016 09:45 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Gold plating of inside of the Lord Venkateswara Swamy's temple atop Tirumala, would not damage the inscriptions, said Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams D.K. Adikesavulu Naidu here on Saturday.

TTD has taken up gold plating of the inside walls of the main temple under the Ananda Nilayam-Anantha Swarnamayam scheme and received criticism from some quarters.

At a press conference, Mr. Naidu said the gold plates, which were detachable, would be fixed on the walls and no damage would be done to the age old inscriptions on the walls. Also every care was being taken to protect the inscriptions. “The Lord is Alankarapriyudu. Like decorating the idol we are decorating the temple”, he said.

Mr. Naidu said he would not like to comment on Janata party president Subrahmanyam Swamy's outburst against him and the gold plating programme. Dr. Swamy was a controversial person and he would not comment on his statement, said Mr. Naidu. Dr. Swamy's case in the High Court was rejected and then he spoke to press, Mr. Naidu said.
