A gold crown costing over Rs. 40 lakh was presented to the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Venkateswarametta near Allipuram on Sunday.
Donors couples from Dondaparty — Nandika Srinivasa Reddy and Sailakshmi and Preetam Reddy and Swetha Reddy — brought the crown to a traditional welcome in the morning.
Chief priest Godavarthi Ananta Padmanabhacharyaswami received the crown with temple honours and performed ‘abhishekam’ and ‘samprokshana’ before placing it on the tall and beautiful idol of the Lord.
The idol was then handed over to Superintendent of Deputy Commissioner Office D.V.V. Prasad.
The donors requested the temple authorities to adorn the idol with the crown every Saturday. Temple manager S. Ganga Rao was present.
