To identify the potential entrepreneurs and encourage them to come up with innovative concepts in marine and agricultural biotechnologies, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK) along with Godavari Knowledge Park, an incubation centre, is organising a three-day global meet ‘Bio Andhra-2014’ on the university’s campus, starting October 16.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, university’s Vice-Chancellor G. Tulasi Ram Das said the objective of the conference is to motivate people to go for research-based projects and strengthen the global economy by taking up cost effective initiatives. “The idea is to encourage students to generate innovative ideas by incorporating agriculture, biotechnology and aqua sciences. So far, a total of 50 ideas have been generated by the students of Godavari Knowledge Park. Out of which 18 have been shortlisted and the top five will be issued patent certificates by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the global meet,” the V-C said.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh and Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman are expected to participate in the conference. Programme coordinator of the park M.S. Shankar Prasad said that the global meet would largely aid in providing an avenue for a new breed of entrepreneurs to promote sustainable agricultural practices and convert traditional farming into value added organic products.

Food testing laboratory

Besides unveiling a fresh policy for the biotechnology sector by State government, a food testing laboratory and an industrial exhibition will also be inaugurated as part of the global meet. Those who would like to partner with incubation centre will ink MoUs for new ventures.
