TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday sought a mandate for five years to ensure “corruption-free” governance.
While declaring that he was not hankering after power, he said, “I had served the State as Chief Minister twice. I have been elected as Leader of Opposition for a second term. But to cleanse the system due to heavy corruption resorted to by the Congress government, the TDP should be given another opportunity to rule,” he said.
Mr. Naidu was addressing roadside meetings at Kannurupalem, Kothuru, G. Bhimavaram, and others places in Anakapalle Assembly segment as part of 201 day of his ‘Vastunaa Meekosam’ padayatra. He said, if the TDP was voted to power, he would clear immediately after taking oath files on his promise to waive off loans given to farmers and women who had taken gold loans due to price rise. He said he would also take action against belt shops, which had mushroomed in every nook and corner since 2004.
Hitting out at the ruling party, he said Congress leaders, including AICC president Sonia Gandhi, could not disown responsibility from the alleged ‘quid pro quo’ deals facilitated to benefit YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagnmohan Reddy. He said welfare activities had come to a standstill during Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s tenure and alleged that Jalayagam and other programmes were being implemented just to loot the exchequer. He said people in the rural areas did not know when power would come and they were being forced to borrow loans to pay the exorbitantly high power bills.
