GITAM University has crossed the 700-mark in campus placements during the last five days with TCS and Wipro conducting the interviews.
According to a spokesman of the university, GITAM had always enjoyed special preference of recruiters, who kept coming back year after year scouting for exceptional engineering and management talent. This was reflected in the placement track record of the university whose graduates - even those without any prior work experience - received job offers.
Even in times of recession, GITAM graduates had enjoyed job offers from about 120 companies which conducted their campus interviews in the last academic year (2009-10) and selected 1,000 students, he said.
This academic year, campus interviews started on December 1 and 701 students were selected till now with an average salary of Rs.3.2 lakhs a year in the two internationally reputed companies.
TATA Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) recruited 552 students, which was a new placement record in the history of the State. The 30-member TCS team conducted this drive continuously for three days on the GITAM campus. TCS Vice-President V. Rajanna, who visited GITAM, said his team observed greater energy levels in GITAM students and staff.
The second recruiter WIPRO selected 149 students from various engineering branches of GITAM University. About 50 companies also had given their dates to start their recruitment drive in GITAM University campus, the spokesman said.
Initiatives
GITAM Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam said the university was taking all initiatives to improve the placement record.
A multi-skill development programme would be started through Training & Placement Cell on the campus and the university was also planning to start an IT incubations centre within the campus to give hands-on experience to the students through live projects, he said. Pro-Vice Chancellor D. Harinarayana, Registrar M. Potha Raju, Institute of Technology Principal D. Prasada Rao, Training & Placement Officer M. Kameswara Rao and advisor S.R. Gollapudi congratulated the students on their achievement.
