July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:03 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The police team is zeroing in on the suicide angle in the case of the 14-year-old girl who was found dead under mysterious circumstance near an apartment, close to her house at Krishnarayapuram under Pendurthi police station limits on Sunday morning.

Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the case, the investigating team had deputed two specialist doctors, including a gynaecologist for the post-mortem. And as per sources, the initial report has negated rape or any kind of sexual abuse, as initially suspected. Sources informed The Hindu that the death was caused due to snapping of the spine, as a result of falling from a height. It may be recalled that the girl had reportedly left home in a huff on Saturday night, after her parents admonished here for moving closely with a boy from the neighbourhood.

After leaving home at about 8 p.m. she would have directly gone to a five-storeyed apartment located near her house where her classmate stays, went to the terrace and jumped from there. But before jumping, she reportedly also slashed her wrist, said a police officer. Her parents and relatives searched all over the locality, but they could not find her and finally they lodged a missing complaint with the Pendurthi police. Early on Sunday morning, the locals in the area found her dead and alerted the family.

A student of Std. IX in a private school, she was the daughter of a petty contractor. As per the police, her parents did not like her closeness to a boy in the neighbourhood, and that was the root-cause of all the problems.

The police have registered a case under Section 174 of Cr PC, but sources say the police are also exploring the possibility of booking a case for stalking under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, against the boy.
