The AP Transport Department has introduced an online kiosk, said to be the first of its kind in the world, where a citizen can get ‘service fulfilment’, pertaining to government services, on the spot.
Two such kiosks, put up at the ongoing CII Partnership here, were launched by Union Minister of Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju.
The kiosk machine, costing ₹2.2 lakh, is totally Aadhar-driven.
It has a camera for capturing photographs, biometric scanner for Aadhar authentication, printers and a 3-D camera for facial recognition. All that the user has to do is to key in his/her Aadhar number and give the thumb impression to avail of the service required.
“On keying the Aadhar No. and making the payment online, the applicant can get the output on the spot. Driving License (DL) services will be made available at the kiosk from March 1 and ‘registration’ services by April,” Transport Commissioner N. Balasubrahmanyam told The Hindu on Sunday.
“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wants all citizen services, offered by different government departments, to be integrated with the online kiosk and they be made available at all the 13,000 panchayats in the State,” he said.
e-Pragathi services
“The Women and Child Welfare and Panchayat Raj departments are planning to offer their services through the kiosk in the near future. We also plan to bring e-Pragathi services through the kiosk in future,” the Commissioner said.
“At present the data is extracted from Aadhar and license. Phonetic algorithms have been developed and when the matching crosses 70%, the applicant can avail of the service. In the next two to three years, we hope to cross 80% matching. When the data given in Aadhar and e-KYC does not match, the applicant would have to visit the Transport Department office.
“Face recognition algorithm will be introduced by Aadhar from July 2018 and we plan to install 3D cameras by then to facilitate the same through the online kiosks,” he said.
The kiosk will be installed at CMR Central Mall in the city on an experimental basis. The experiences and suggestions of the users will be taken to incorporate the necessary changes by March-end.
