Embarking on a journey ‘Garlanding India’ to reach out to people and help raise funds for 22 NGOs across the country to cater to diverse causes, Uday Damodaran, finance professor in XLRI Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, is all set to cover 46 cities across the country.

The two-month-long expedition began at Jamshedpur on Saturday and reached the Port City on Sunday, passing through Bhubaneshwar.

From Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada, Kanyakumari to Kochi, Goa to Mumbai, Amritsar to Jammu, and back to Jamshedpur, the trip would cover 14,000 km.

Prof. Uday plans to document the entire trip by keeping a track of all the roadside eateries and memorable places.

“Since I love travelling, it’s nice to make a note of all such outlets to guide others on similar trips. Every destination that I reach will be uploaded on the Facebook the next day, and my entire journey is being tracked by bus-i-com/track/uday-xlri through GPS,” Prof. Uday says.

To help reduce the carbon footprint, he is planting around 330 saplings through an online service portal.

Briefing about the challenges, he says, “Since it is election time, my vehicle is being stopped at every town I come across for checking. And I sincerely hope that I will complete my 60-day journey without any unnecessary delay.”

With a target of a city per day, Porf. Uday will be visiting some of the schools and make them aware of the entire concept of ‘Garlanding India’.
