Minister for Infrastructure and Investments Ganta Srinivasa Rao has called for a permanent solution to the problems of those displaced by the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) by considering their woes in a humanitarian manner.

Addressing revenue officials, along with Gajuwaka MLA Chintalapudi Venkataramaiah, at the Government Circuit House here on Tuesday, he held detailed discussions on the problem of enrolment of workers, who did not have the requisite skills, under contractors and their losing employment once the contract was completed.

The problem of R. Card holders not getting employment as they had crossed the upper age limit and such persons, who do not have any other means of livelihood should be considered from a humanitarian angle, he said.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao directed the District Collector V. Sheshadri to appoint a committee with MLA Chintalapudi Venkataramaiah, Joint Collector Praveen Kumar, Director (Personnel) of VSP and Joint Commissioner of Labour for solving the long-pending problems of the displaced persons.

Chairman and Managing Director of the Steel Plant A.P. Choudhury, who was present at the meeting, said that the plant in a phase of major expansion and there was immense scope for job opportunities in future. He said that recruitment would be done in coordination with the district administration.

The District Collector said that the skills of the workers would be enhanced through ‘skill upgradation programmes’ under the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu.
