Ganja worth Rs. 9 lakh seized

Prohibition and Excise sleuths seized 300 kg dry ganja, valued at Rs.9 lakh, and arrested two persons at Vanjari village of G. Madugula mandal in the Agency area of the district on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner M. Satyanarayana said that the accused, K. Pandia Rajan of Madurai district in Tamil Nadu and Naidu Srinivas of Burma Colony in Rajahmundry, were caught by the Excise Police while they were transporting the ganja in a van to Madurai.

The ganja is being cultivated in the hilly terrain between Sileru and Darakonda in the Vizag agency. The ganja grown in Vizag Agency is rated as the best in the world. Mr. Satyanarayana said that the dry ganja would fetch a minimum of Rs.3,000 per kg in the international market.
