May 26, 2013 02:54 pm | Updated 02:54 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Following the government issuing GOs withdrawing cases against fishermen, leaders and workers of political parties and people’s organisations who had participated in the agitation against Gangavaram Port during 2005 and 2006, a petition seeking withdrawal of prosecution was filed in the court of Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate P. Dattatreyulu at Gajuwaka on Saturday.

Assistant Public Prosecutor M. Adinarayana filed the petition based on the GO in which nearly two dozen cases were filed against some hundreds of persons.

The Magistrate allowed the petition. Those involved in the cases were former MLA Manam Anjaneyulu of CPI, party’s former corporator A.J. Stalin, Kona Tata Rao of the Telugu Desam, advocates and activists Ganta Papa Rao and G. Mohana Rao.
