In the city about 1200 Ganesh pandals have been erected, but this one at Lakshmi Narayanapuram in Thatchetlapalem stands out, for its unique theme.

Set-up by Peela Hariprasad of Yuva Seva Foundation, this year the theme is blood donation.

Hariprasad has been setting up the pandal with some theme for the last seven year and it touched upon various themes such as train accidents, user of voter ids and the hazard of talking over cell phones while driving.

This year, he has chosen the theme of blood donation and has designed a tech-savvy lord Ganesha who has a WhatsApp group by name ‘Ganesh blood donor group’.

“There is a huge shortage of blood in the city, especially for the negative groups. My idea was to create an awareness campaign by demystifying the myths surrounding blood donation,” said Mr. Hariprasad, founder of Yuva Seva.

The tech-savvy Ganesha will be immersed in the sea on Sunday, and Mr. Hariprasad will be organising a live blood donation camp at the pandal. “I intend to collect at least 100 units of blood. While 50 will be given to Gosha Hospital the other half will be handed over to KGH,” he said.
