It was a beautiful sight to see 1,012 children clad in white dhoti and towel, carrying stick, spinning wheel, waving the flag, wearing golden frames and slippers taking out a rally to promote non-violence, ahimsa and Gandhian principles.
Children of Class III to X from 16 branches and 300 teachers of Amar Concept School participated in the rally from Victory at Sea to Kalimata temple on Beach Road here on Saturday. District Collector V. Seshadri, State Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju, Pendurthi MLA P. Ramesh Babu and Visakhapatnam West MLA Malla Vijay Prasad and others participated in the rally after flagging off the procession at 5 p.m.
The initiative was taken by Youth Under Various Achievements to promote Gandhian principles and also to get into The Guinness Book of World Records .
Speaking about the rally, the Collector said: The platform helps to create awareness on the principles of Gandhi. I hope children who have taken part in the rally also imbibe the principles of Gandhi and even if a fraction of the principles are imbibed, it would be a great service to our nation.
Dr. Vijay Prasad said such events inspire many people to follow Gandhian principles. He lauded the director of YUVA Sushath for organising such an event. Children were asked to gather at 9 a.m. and it took seven hours for makeup artists to start fixing the moustache, tying the dhotis and making them ready for the event.
