Funds, staff promised to tackle malaria in Agency

July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The District Collector should camp in the Agency area for a week along with officials and staff and ensure that spread of malaria is arrested, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has said.

At a review on Friday with Tribal Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu on the intensity of malaria in the Agency, he said the government would provide para medical staff, medical officers, and funds for malathion chemical to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. “But not even a single death should occur owing to malaria,” he said.

Special medical camps should be conducted.

He assured that steps would be taken to fill the posts of para medical staff and medical officers.

District Collector N. Yuvaraj, ITDA Project Officer M. Harinarayanan, and DMO Sarojini were present at the meeting.

Giving details of the steps taken so far, Mr. Harinarayanan said that right from March awareness on spraying preventive chemical was created and spraying taken up in 2,500 affected villages.

The large number of vacancies of para medical staff and paucity of funds for spraying of the chemical were causing problems, he said.

Up to Rs.1 crore was required for the spraying. The situation was serious in areas under 11 primary health centres, he said.
