The First Additional Special Judge for CBI cases R. Sudhakar Naidu on Friday sentenced four persons to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine in a graft case.
Syed Mahaboob Rahman, former Manager (Quality Control), Kasina Nagendra Rao, the then Assistant Grade-I (Tech), both from FCI, Metta Venkata Shanmukha Bhatlu, the then manager, Warehouse, AP State Warehousing Corporation, and Baratam Thaviti Raju, courier for the millers at Cheepurapalli in Vizianagaram district, had entered into a criminal conspiracy to demand bribe from the complainant, who is a partner of a rice mill at Itchapuram in Srikakulam district.
Rahman and Nagendra Rao had demanded Rs.2,500 as bribe for accepting 100 quintals of mill levy Raw Rice Common supplied by him on March 1, 2008, and March 10, 2008, which was shown as ‘rejected’ earlier.
As part of their conspiracy, they accepted the consignment supplied by the complainant by manipulating the entries in the Lorry Weigh Bridge Register, Dumping Register, Way Bill, Approval Slip, Acceptance Note, Weight Check Memo, and acknowledgement, and directed the complainant to hand over the bribe money to Bhatlu and Raju, who were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
After conducting regular trial, the court pronounced judgment convicting the persons. The first three had been ordered to pay a fine of Rs.7,500 each and the fourth, who is a private person, was asked to pay Rs.2,500.
