Forum decries ‘bid' to reclassify CRZ

May 22, 2011 05:25 pm | Updated 05:25 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Forum for Better Visakha (FBV) has deplored “attempts” to reclassify Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) categories in the city to favour a few influential persons/firms and the failure to identify and finalise a list of violations as per the fiat issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) on January 25.

The forum said that at the National Coastal Zone Management Authority meeting held at New Delhi last month, the State Coastal Zone Management Authority had tried to suppress facts by giving wrong information. It had also sought reclassification to favour some.

FBV convener EAS Sarma, in a recent letter to MoEF Secretary, said they had made several representations pointing out that false justification was being made for reclassification of CRZ to help some vested interests in blatant violation of rules.
