Focus on research at GITAM varsity

Emphasising on academic research, GITAM University honoured three of its senior faculty for their research work with Best Researcher Awards at the third Convocation of the university here on Saturday.

The faculty members have published over 748 research papers in reputed national and international journals in the last one year and some of the faculty have published 30 text books, Vice-Chancellor G. Subrahmanyam said in his address.

Professor of Biotechnology K. Aruna Lakshmi, instrumental in developing a product using biotechnology and also received funding from Ministry of Food Processing Industry for setting up the M.Tech. course in food processing technology, was given away the Best Researcher Award by Chancellor of the University K. Ramakrishna Rao.

She is studying the high incidence of renal problems among the residents of Uddanam region of Srikakulam district.

Professor and Head of Department of Chemistry M. Saratchandra Babu, responsible for getting international recognition for development of chemical elements which were named after the university, was presented the Best Researcher award by Secretary Department of Science and Technology Government of India T. Ramasami. He is also heading a research on oil technology.

Professor of GITAM School of International Business K. Venkateswarlu, a key player in outreach programme of the university and an authority on statistics and operations research, got the Best Researcher award from Secretary DST.
