There has been a discernible change on the campus of the 86-year-old Andhra University over the last one year with old buildings getting a makeover and new structures coming up, thanks to the efforts of University Registrar V. Uma Maheswara Rao.
“My primary focus has been to create an academic atmosphere on the campus and for that purpose we have taken up planned development of the environment, including restoration and modernisation of old structures and growing of gardens,” the Registrar who is completing one year in office told The Hindu .
“The university would be signing memorandums of understanding with a number of reputed universities from across the world like the establishment of Open Innovation Centre in partnership with University of California Berkeley. We have taken up revamp of the open air auditorium with an aim to regain the glory of the days of Prof. K.V. Gopalaswamy. The university would like it to be developed as a cultural complex that would be available to the general public. With the help of philanthropists like Mavuri Venkata Ramana of CMR Group we have set up benches all over the campus to create an atmosphere conducive for study.
The University is exploring setting up of an advanced lab in Chemistry Department with the help of Laurus Laboratories, which would give our students access to latest technologies,” the Registrar explained.Andhra University has some of the best equipment and facilities in this part of the world and unfortunately most of the world is unaware of it.
The university is planning to conduct workshops to create awareness on the facilities among the students, researchers and institutions in the region. “We have in fact reduced the user fees for a number of facilities to help more people from the region access the equipment,” he said.
