‘Focus on doubling of lines, improving connectivity’

Works worth ₹ 2,600 cr. will be taken up, says DRM

Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur has said the focus of the government is on doubling of lines, which is essential for enhancement of traffic capacity, improvement of connectivity, electrification and improvement of safety through ROBs and RUBs.

Giving the highlights of the allocations for Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) in the Union Budget 2018-19 at a media conference here on Wednesday, the DRM said works worth ₹ 2,600 crore would be undertaken in Waltair Division during 2018-19. A major portion of the allocation would be spent on doubling works, safety works and track renewal.

Wagon POH

The Wagon POH at Vadlapudi in Visakhapatnam city has been granted ₹150 crore in this budget, ₹ 21.48 crore was sanctioned to the Diesel Loco Shed and ₹ 9 crore was sanctioned to the Electric Loco Shed for augmentation of capacity. For the improvement of passenger amenities, ₹ 1 crore was sanctioned for provision of more escalators and ₹1.35 crore for widening of central FOB in Visakhapatnam Junction and ₹ 4.32 crore was provided for widening of FOB at Nellimarla, Gotlam, Kuneru, Jimidipeta and Ladda, and ₹ 5.5 crore was given for protection works on the KK line and KR line.

Mr. Mathur said the budget grant for new works in 2018-19 at ₹116 crore as against ₹ 6.65 crore during the previous year was very high at 1644%.

The major budget grant and the new sanctions (all figures in crores) in the Pink Book for 2018-19 include: New lines: Jeypore-Malkangiri – 95, Jeypore-Navarangpur-100; doubling: Kirandul-Jagdalpur – 300, Jagdalpur-Koraput – 116, Vizianagaram-Sambalpur – 379, Koraput-Kottavalasa 193, Koraput-Singapur Road – 110 and Vizianagaram bypass – 5.91. The total allocation for improvement of traffic facilities in the division is 35.36; total amount for Road Safety works – 41.64 and track renewal works – 193.77 and bridge works – 17.6.

Replying to queries, the DRM said loopline extension would be done at Pendurthy, Jaggayyapeta and Palasa. He said the signalling system would be upgraded at the Waltair Marshalling Yard at a cost of ₹ 65 crore. Development works would be taken up at Marripalem Passenger Halt and Pendurthy Railway Stations under Adarsh Station policy.
