A mechanised boat and a motorcycle suffered heavy damage following a fire that broke out at the fishing harbour here on Saturday.

The source of fire was believed to be due to spread of sparks from welding being carried out on-board mechanised boat (MM 1133). The fire spread to the LPG cylinder which resulted in its explosion damaging the bike which was parked nearby.

Welder injured

Welder Kare Kiran, 23, resident of Kotaveedhi suffered minor injuries. The incident created panic in the harbour area as the news about the fire spread like wildfire.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot. An officer of Visakhapatnam Port Fire Department said sparks while carrying out welding work led to the fire. The boat had 1500 litres of diesel in the tank at the time of incident.
