One dies as mechanised boat catches fire

Within a span of one week fire broke out at the Fishing Harbour here on Saturday.

According to the inspector at the One Town Fire Station, one person reportedly died and three were injured when a mechanised fishing boat caught fire.

There were about five persons in the boat and three escaped with injuries and one had died, said the inspector.

Basing on a complaint, two fire engines rushed to the spot and controlled and fire and stopped from spreading to other boats that were anchored at the harbour. As per the initial reports the accident occurred due to a cylinder blast in the boat. The preliminary loss is estimated to be around ₹ 10 lakh.

Identity of the deceased person is yet to be established.
