Varalakshmi vratam’ was celebrated by women all over the city and district as part of the ‘Sravana Maasam’ ritual on Friday.

Women performed the ‘Varalakshmi puja’ at their homes with devotion and also at temples and groups of women organised the ritual at several places, erecting temporary pandals in apartment complexes and other places. The ‘puja’ is mostly performed in the morning and sumptuous meal is served to the family members.

The famous Sri Kanakamahalakshmi temple where the ‘Sravanamaasam’ is being celebrated organised ‘Sravana Sukravaram puja’ as a ‘Vesesha Puja’ to the goddess. As many as 150 directly participated in the ‘puja’, while it was performed on behalf of 608 other devotees and ‘kumkuma and prasadam’ was sent to them by post, Executive Officer S.J. Madhavi said. ‘Sravanamaasam Puja’ would be performed every day till September 13 on payment of Rs. 250 with the Devasthanam providing all the puja material, she added.
