Fears over doomsday predictions allayed

Noted scholar and ‘Mahasahasravadhani' Madugula Nagaphani Sarma allayed fears over the doomsday predictions of the world coming to an end in 2012. The Telugu new Year ‘Vikruti' would be a mixed bag, he said.

Mr. Nagaphani Sarma was addressing a gathering after giving away Telugu daily Visakha Samacharam's 12th Ugadi Puraskarams on Sunday. The following have been adjusted ‘Best' in the respective categories and received the awards: Best Citizen: Datla Vijayarama Raju; Best Women: ICDS Project Officer Bobbili Unit M. Varalakshmi; People's Representatives: Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao and Botsa Appalanarsaiah; Officials: VUDA Secretary M.S Bhagavan and Housing Executive Engineer P. Srinivasa Rao; Voluntary Organisation: S. Khuddus Bhasha (T. Subbarami Reddy Kalapeetham); Police Official: Elamanchili Circle Inspector K. Praveen Kumar; Rural official: Madugula MDO: D. Venkataramaiah; Journalist: The Hindu Chief of Bureau Bulusu Prabhakara Sarma; Trade union leader: Y.Mastanappa of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant; Sarpanch: Sayyapureddy Narayana Rao of Veeravelli Agraharam, Madugula mandal and social worker: Perumalla Venkatarao, Madugula upa sarpanch.

Mr.Nagaphani Sarma and Rejeti Sriramacharyulu were felicitated on the occasion. MLAs Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, Chintalapudi Venkatramaiah and Botsa Appalanarsaiah, Krishna Patrika Editor Piratla Venkateswarlu, Vaidyanth Tagore and Suresh Tyagi of New Delhi, ‘Visakha Samahcaram' Editor Surampudi Veerabhadra Rao, honorary editor Surampudi Visweswara Rao and Awards Committee Chairman Bodem Suryanaryana Murthy spoke.
