If social networking sites could well be the platform for people to share information and stay connected, it also opens the doors for entrepreneurs to strike seasonal business deals.
Pinning hopes on the U.S. clients for the first time ever since its inception, Sampoorna, a unit of Physically Handicapped Welfare Association, is gearing up to make its presence felt in the global market. The unit gets busy dishing out a variety of products such as ‘avakai’ pickles and crispies, also known as ‘odiyalu’ or fryums, in different flavours during summer. Besides a number of pickles like gongura , tomato, amla and lemon, a selection of ‘avakai’ pickles, including ‘pulihora avakai’, green chilli ‘avakai’ and ‘grated avakai’ top the menu.
Comparatively, this year, Sampoorna witnessing a surge in the sale. “After I posted a few pictures of my team preparing ‘avakai’ pickles on the Facebook page, orders started pouring in from the U.S., Bengaluru, Delhi and Chennai. Till now our products never crossed the city limits and this is the first time that we are reaching out to global clients,” says a visibly excited Ch. Satya, founder-president of Sampoorna.
According to Satya, trading online has its own benefits. “There is always a definite sale where we can prepare as per the order and can prevent food waste to a large extent,” she reasons.
To tap business opportunity in the global market, Satya is keen on using the online platform in future. The team members of Sampoorna also assist in adding value to the business and dishing out products that appeal to the clients.
“There is a huge demand for potato-sago (saggubiyyam) flavoured ‘odiyam’. Based on customers’ request, we have added the new product to our menu. Experimenting with the products also helps in building our clientele,” says Jaya, a differently-abled person who works at the unit.
