Excise revenue up

The Prohibition and Excise Department earned an additional revenue of Rs. 28.7 crore over last year, in Visakhapatnam district.

According to Excise Deputy Commissioner M. Satyanarayana, the total sale of liquor bottles till the end of November this year was 13.41 lakh, while it was 13.26 lakh last year. The revenue earned was Rs. 555.96 crore against Rs. 527.24 crore last year.

Coming to licence fee, Mr. Satyanarayana said that 406 shops were notified of which 312 were disposed of and the fee collected from them so far was Rs. 98.49 crore. “In January, we will be getting another instalment of Rs. 49 crore,” said Mr. Satyanarayana.

In case of bars, the department has given 97 licences in Visakhapatnam city, 28 in Gajuwaka, and nine in Anakapalle. The fee collected was Rs. 53.3 crore, he told The Hindu.
