Polling officials and staff should ensure an incident-free and peaceful election, Collector V. Sheshadri said while reviewing the arrangements for the panchayat elections to be held in the district later this month, with election observers and later during a video conference with mandal-level officers on Tuesday.
Teams of officials should continuously monitor the situation in their mandals and report to higher-ups about untoward incidents immediately. Daily reports on implementation of election code must be sent to headquarters, he said. He inquired about the arrangements for polling, training for polling personnel, distribution of voter slips etc. Earlier in the day, Mr. Sheshadri reviewed the polling arrangements with election observers Anita Ramachandran, N. Yuvaraj and Ramamohana Rao. A few mistakes would have their effect on the entire process, he said. The Collector told the officials not to allot polling stations in G.K. Veedhi, Chintapalli, G. Madugula, Koyyuru, Pedabayalu and Munchingput to women polling staff.
He directed the District Panchayat Officer K. Sudhakar to provide video cameras at check-posts in the district. Superintendent of Police Vikramjeet Duggal explained the security arrangements for the polling stations and villages. CEO Zilla Praja Parishad D.V. Reddy, who is in charge of implementing the code of conduct for elections, said that 3,166 cut-outs and hoardings which violated the code were removed and check-posts manned by joint teams of revenue, police and excise officials were set up at 23 places in the district.
