To ensure proper conduct of elections, no flaw should be allowed in enrolment of voters, MD of AP Housing Corporation and Electoral Rolls Observer for the district for the special revision of electoral rolls B. Venkatesham told officials and representatives of political parties at a meeting here on Wednesday. Election Commission of India would take action against the officials if they failed to conduct enrolment in a perfect manner, he warned.

Enrolment of voters must be completed by December 17 as directed by the ECI and a voter must be able to exercise his or her franchise in the area where he or she lives, he said. Officials have to identify the nomadic tribes and enrol them as voters.

He wanted the officials to meet principals of the colleges to get their students who were 18 years old enrolled as voters.

Referring to the political parties, Mr. Venkatesham said they have a role in the process of elections in a democratic system.

Not only the officials but also the political parties have to appoint booth-level officers to ensure enrolment of all eligible voters, the official said.

District Collector Solomon Arokia Raj said the measures being taken for the special campaign to be done on Sunday.

Last date extended

The ECI has extended the last date for filing claims and objections under the special revision of electoral rolls till December 17.

Earlier, the District Collector appointed District and Divisional officers as Special Officers in every Assembly segment to monitor the special campaign on December 15.

The Special Officers will visit the polling stations allotted to them on Sunday.
