English plays a major role in confidence-building said Condura trainer Md. Abdullah, while training students of Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology here on Tuesday during the simultaneous launch of 10 The Hindu E-Plus Clubs.
Enthusiastic students of MBA, MCA and B.Tech programmes from the two institutions of Chaitanya Educational Group on the same campus were raring to get that extra skill, which would put them ahead of others in the job market. Some 300 students joined the clubs and attended the formal inaugural session at which methodology to go through the Skillspark-designed activity was explained by the trainer.
Reading good newspapers like The Hindu would improve the functional knowledge of English, general knowledge, and improve communication skills, said principals of the GIET College of Engineering and GIET S.S.N. Murthy and L.S. Gupta.
The E-Plus Club was initiated by The Hindu in 2008 to help rural students develop their communication skills and better their English language. A club comprises 30 like-minded students, who are good in academics but lack proper communication skills. The weekly activity of the club that spreads over an academic year is designed by the Hyderabad-based firm Skillspark and is intended to better the soft skills of the students in an informal setup within the campus.
In the post-launch training session, Mr. Abdullah advised the students to display their skill set during the recruitment process and for that make an effort from the beginning of college days for building their unique profile. Grooming a good personality in the long-run was the aim of the programme, he said and wanted students to pay attention to stress code.
Those, who attended the programme included Chaitanya Educational Group corporate head Shaher Shaik, managing director Sashi Verma, GIET dean Vijay Kumar, English department head Anantha Lakshmi.
