ENC bike expedition to Northeast flagged off

A nine-member team of officers of Eastern Naval Command is on a 12-day motorcycle expedition touching the remote areas of Northast region.

The team led by Capt. Ashok Sharma has been flagged off by Commandant of Assam Regimental Centre Brig. S.K. Jha was flagged off at Shillong on Saturday, according to an ENC press release. Earlier the team was seen of here by Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht a few days ago.

The ENC team would drive 2000 km across hilly terrain, treacherous roads, through thick jungles and grassy plains and in hostile weather before reaching its destination Aizawl in Mizoram. The changes in altitude, coupled with diurnal variations of temperature will be a test of the team’s grit and mental strength, said the press release.

The naval officers would interact with the youth of the North-eastern region and create awareness about the Navy and present the armed forces as a career choice. The team will also address the students in various colleges and universities en route and distribute naval publicity material. The motorcycle expedition on the difficult roads and through conditions in the North East is part of Indian Navy’s adventure sports to crate a spirit of adventure, courage and camaraderie.
