Imagine the otherwise moody boss shaking a leg or a ‘khadoos’ colleague who does not exchange more than a half-hearted smile shares the best kept secret with you or a busy teammate whom you have been longing to strike a cord suddenly finds time for you.

All these dreams can turn into reality in employee engagement activities. Bringing a whiff of fresh air for the employees at workplace, organisations are now embarking on innovative initiatives under its employee engagement policy. More than ever before, HR managers are now concerned about developing a sense of belonging among employees at workplace, helping them deliver better.

In order to do the balancing act, today, most organisations are introducing new formats to engage its potential employees through its effective engagement programmes. It was quite evident at ‘Actitude’, an employee engagement programme of the local chapter of Atria Convergence Technologies Private Ltd (ACT), an internet and digital cable network service provider held here on Sunday.

It was an occasion where employees across cadres met as a family and had fun playing ‘desi’ games and dancing to the filmy tunes. “After all the music, dance and masti, your perception about your team and work is bound to change. Events such as these help to break the ice, bond and feel comfortable with those whom you never dreamt of even interacting once,” says Ramesh Babu, who takes care of the collection process.

New formats

Perhaps that is why companies have derived new formats to go beyond providing the regular Sodexo vouchers, gift hampers and special allowance to the workforce as part of its engagement policy. “Hosting outdoor programmes help us connect better with our colleagues. As a result, it helps boost the productivity level of our teammates. With one innovative concept, we can actually bind two different elements together,” says Sridhar, Head of Operations, ACT.

For the new breed of customer care executives who have just stepped out of their colleges, the engagement activities offer a welcome relief and bring back their college days.
