Educational institutes to comply with VUDA norms

July 10, 2010 03:30 pm | Updated 03:30 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Obtaining approvals for the construction and development activities by educational institutions would help VUDA monitor regional growth and work for connectivity among the regions in Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR), VUDA Vice-Chairman B. Sreedhar has said.

As such, it was mandatory on the part of the institutions to get prior permission and statutory approvals from VUDA and record each and every aspect of development under the provisions of the AP urban Areas (Development) Act 1975, he said at a meeting on Friday with representatives of identified educational institutions that developed campuses without approvals.

However, all the 16 educational institutions had responded to the notices issued by VUDA and their representatives expressed readiness to obtain approvals from VUDA.

Mr. Sreedhar interacted with representatives of the 16 institutions and explained the reasons for insisting on approvals.

Since the VUDA Master Plan is an official document setting the land use pattern in VMR area, every change had to be recorded and included in it.

As the educational institutions are developing their campuses in a vast area and influencing further growth of the region, the information should be passed on to the competent authority for future action.

VUDA Chief Urban Planner K. Ananda Babu and Planning Officers K. D. Brainard, V. Dhanabal and L. Subrahmanyam attended the meeting.
