Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur has taken initiative to solve problems, at the divisional-level, which have been pending for quite some time.

He is going out on field inspections apart from trying to solve the complaints and suggestions brought to his notice by social media users.

“The other day someone tweeted on the incomplete stretch of line, going to the NCC (New Coaching Complex). They also posted a photograph on Whatsapp. During my field inspection, I found out that the work on the missing line could be completed easily,” Mr. Mathur told The Hindu .

“I asked the officials concerned and they told me that the CRS (Commissioner of Railway Safety) inspection was required. But, shunting trains are already being operated on one of the two lines and I got the changes done locally,” he said.

The DRM’s initiatives received wide acclaim from netizens, particularly on Twitter.

“The change of the designated platforms of some trains and its non-reflection in the coach indication boards is causing a lot of hardships to passengers. The person in-charge of the RRI system was more pre-occupied with train movements and was not having time to inform the enquiry staff of the change of platform, as the changes were being done at the eleventh hour,” Mr. Mathur said.

“The person concerned at the ‘enquiry counter’ was not finding time to feed the changes into the system, when information was coming late. I established a separate communication system between the RRI and the enquiry by posting a person from the enquiry at the RRI”.

“The system allows you to check the trains not fed into the system. I have ordered daily print outs and the staff became alert. Trains not being fed into the system became ‘zero’. No platform change will be done, unless it is absolutely necessary,” he said.

On the third line from Visakhapatnam to Gopalapatnam, Mr. Mathur said the survey could be completed in six months.

The work on the Wagon POH (Periodic Overhaul) project was expected to begin by the year-end.

A sixth pit-line has been sanctioned for the NCC and estimates and drawings are being prepared for it.

The doubling work on the Kothavalasa – Kirandul line is on, and 40-km stretch, between Jagdalpur and Kirandul, has already been commissioned, he added.
