Mohsin Eye Bank on Sunday issued dos and don'ts for ensuring a safe Deepavali on Wednesday.
A spokesman of the hospital said adults should carefully supervise children while they indulge in the celebrations. One should keep a safe distance while igniting crackers.
“It is advisable to wear protective goggles while lighting crackers and other material that burst and release sparks,” he said. Simple plastic protective goggles were enough.
In case of injury to eyes or eyelids, one should avoid pressing the eyelids. Instead, they should blow air into the eyes or apply medicines, especially ointments, and consult an eye specialist immediately.
In case of burns, one should douse or dip burnt parts preferably in ice-cold water and seek medical help immediately. The eye bank said all should avoid areas and streets where anti-social elements indulge in throwing lighted crackers at passers-by.
