Dornier crash victim was awaiting transfer

March 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Lt. Kiran Shekawat (26), an Observer in an Indian Navy Dornier aircraft, whose body was found in the fuselage of the aircraft in the sea south west of Goa on Friday, should have joined her husband in Kerala in May this year.

“Ms. Kiran’s father Vijayendra Singh, hailing from Rajasthan, was a retired Navy officer who was last posted in the Eastern Naval Command. They had been residing in our apartment complex at Dabagardens for the past 11 years. She did her degree at Gajuwaka. Her brother is a sailor in the Navy and she had joined the Navy some five years ago,” said Attili Sankara Rao, a TDP leader, living in the same apartment complex.

“Ms. Kiran had joined the Indian Navy as an Observer in the aircraft in Visakhapatnam and was subsequently transferred to Goa. She had married Vivek Singh, a Naval Officer, who is presently working in Kerala. She was supposed to have been transferred to Kerala in May this year but fate struck a cruel blow,” he said.

“Her parents left for Delhi, where Ms. Kiran’s in-laws live. Her mother was weeping inconsolably,” he said.
