Doctor arrested on molestation charge

A 48-year-old medical practitioner was arrested on a charge of molesting his patient at Araku Valley in the Agency area of the district on Saturday. The 24-year-old victim of Sivalingapuram area went along with her brother to the weekly shandy at Araku on Friday morning. She collapsed on the road and was admitted to M. Sankara Rao’s clinic.

While treating the patient, Dr. Sankara Rao allegedly tried to outrage her modesty but the victim escaped and narrated the matter to her brother. A complaint was lodged at the Araku Valley Police Station on Friday evening.

Inspector K. Kumara Swamy said that the accused doctor was charged under Section 345 (assault or criminal force on a woman with an intention to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.

The accused doctor had taken voluntary retirement from government service two years ago and set up a private clinic at Araku Valley.
