The 14 annual book exhibition of Visalaandhra Book House opens at Turner’s Choultry
The Shiva trilogy in English by Indian author Amish was lapped up by readers and then there were many who felt left out because they were not used to reading English. Telugu readers can now enjoy fiction and the first two books are available and the third book in the series is expected within a matter of days. It is not just fiction but a large volume of modern writing in English has been translated into Telugu and these works have proved to be immensely popular with bibliophiles, manager of Visalaandhra Book House P A Raju, said, speaking about the interests of the visitors to their 14 annual book exhibition at the Turner’s Choultry here.
Reprints of classics
While there are over 5,000 titles on display, the most popular with the readers are the works on personality development. The section of readers who were restricted by the number of such works by writers in Telugu now have an option of picking up some of the world’s best sellers that have been translated into Telugu. These translations have been able to do justice to the original thus increasing their acceptability, he explained.
The exhibition has on display a number of reprints of old Telugu classics and fiction by authors like Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani, Gopichand and Chalam, among others. There is also a section dedicated to cinema, including books on film making and script writing. A book brought out by Visalaandhra Publications on Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, which as some rare photos, is also available.
Apart from the numerous works in Telugu the exhibition has a section devoted to Oxford University Press and their largely popular works, including dictionaries, reference books and non-fiction. Among the non-fiction are academic works. The exhibition is on till November 25 and there is a discount available on all the publications on sale at the venue.
