Direct-to-Home (DTH) service provider Dish TV on Wednesday announced the launch of ‘Zing Digital’, a new DTH platform targeted at Telugu viewers. The new platform will telecast all existing 38 Telugu language channels that include paid and free-to-air channels at a cost of Rs.139 a month.

Dish TV officials said 71 per cent viewership in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was for Telugu channels, while for Hindi channels, it was between 11 and 15 per cent. So far, there was no exclusive digital platform only dedicated to Telugu channels. Demographic studies have shown that small and medium town viewers prefer local content. Zing will address this need,” said Dish TV India COO Salil Kapoor.

Depending on the need of the viewers, the channel packages for Zing Digital begins from Rs.99 to Rs.349 per month. “This is our attempt to provide a local product to Telugu viewers,” he said.
